Letters of Van Gogh

Grigory Frid (Grigori Fried), Letters of Van Gogh -- mono-opera in two parts for baritone and chamber ensemble, to the composer's own libretto after Van Gogh's letters to his brother Theo; composed 1975, first performed 29 November 1976 at the House of Composers, Moscow. It is a staged chamber opera, not a concert work: the Melodiya release ripped here prints "MONOOPERA" on the front and back covers (MEL CD 10 01680); Sikorski catalogues it under opera as "Briefe des van Gogh, Monooper in zwei Teilen"; the New Grove Dictionary of Opera covers Frid (vol. II p.303); de.wikipedia calls it "Mono-Oper in zwei Teilen fuer Bariton" and en.wikipedia "a mono-opera in two parts for baritone and chamber ensemble". Filed under composer 414, the better-populated of findopera's two rows for this man (414 Grigori Fried, with dates 1915-2012 and the correct Wikipedia link; 709 Grigory Frid is a duplicate). Russian original title: Pisma Van Goga.
